“Freedom is in the discipline.” – Have you heard this before? I still want freedom to mean getting to do what I want, when I want but I know it doesn’t work that way. Sigh… It just doesn’t.

What a paradox, huh? Freedom comes once we have habits and structures in place to support us in being our best

Daily practices that support our body, heart and mind.

The great thing is, you get to choose. Not that it makes it easy but you can choose what feels right for you. A morning walk, meditation, writing, painting?

The catch is that you have to do it even when you don’t feel like it. That’s what makes it a discipline.

I used to wait for inspiration to write or paint. Ha! That didn’t get me anywhere. Inspiration came only once in a blue moon. Now I start regardless of how I feel and it’s always worth while. Even if I don’t like what I’ve produced at least I showed up for what I say matters most.

And the more I show up the more life supports me in doing what I truly want to be doing.

One of my favorite quotes on this is from Stephen King:

“Your job is to make sure the muse knows where you’re going to be every day from nine ’til noon. or seven ’til three. If he does know, I assure you that sooner or later he’ll start showing up.”
